CCTV Camera at Punjab Highway Under Investigation

A CCTV camera installed on a highway in Punjab has become the focal point of a significant espionage investigation, involving alleged cross-border surveillance and the involvement of suspected Pakistani operators. The Punjab police have apprehended Baljeet Singh, a resident of Pathankot, accusing him of secretly monitoring the activities of the Indian Army and paramilitary forces near the sensitive Pathankot-Jammu corridor and sharing footage with operators linked to Pakistan.

Innovative Surveillance Techniques Uncovered

According to investigators, this case highlights a new method of low-cost yet high-impact surveillance utilizing readily available internet-enabled devices. Baljeet Singh reportedly installed an internet-based CCTV camera at a shop located near a bridge on National Highway-44, a crucial route frequently used by military and paramilitary convoys.

Strategic Camera Placement Raises Concerns

Authorities suspect that the camera was strategically positioned to capture real-time activities of defense vehicles and personnel heading towards Jammu and Kashmir. Allegations suggest that the live feed was being transmitted to operators based in Pakistan. Police believe that Singh was leaking sensitive information related to traffic through the CCTV system and was allegedly receiving instructions from an individual operating out of Dubai.

Investigation Expands to Broader Spy Network

The accused, identified as Baljeet Singh from Chak Dhariwal village in Pathankot district, reportedly confessed during interrogation that he installed the camera earlier this year. Investigators are now examining his communication methods, financial transactions, and potential links to a larger espionage network active in bordering states. The police also claim that Singh received approximately 40,000 rupees for this operation from an unidentified person in Dubai.
