Pune Police Take Action Against Landlords for Renting to Yemeni Nationals

Pune, Sep 16: Authorities in Pune have initiated legal proceedings against two landlords for allegedly leasing their apartments to Yemeni nationals over the past seven to eight years without notifying the police.
According to police reports, the tenants' passports had expired, and the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRO) had issued orders restricting their stay. The passports have since been surrendered to the relevant authorities.
Cases were filed at the Kondhwa police station under applicable laws after the landlords reportedly failed to disclose the presence of foreign nationals residing in their properties, violating police directives.
Senior Police Inspector Santosh Khetmals from the Kondhwa police station stated that deportation procedures for the Yemeni nationals have commenced, as directed by the FRO.
In the first instance, Khan Faheema Jabbar, 55, a resident of Ghorpade Peth, was charged for allegedly renting her flat to a Yemeni family without police notification.
Similarly, Jabbar A. Sattar Khan, 62, also from Ghorpade Peth, faced charges for renting his flat to another Yemeni family without informing the authorities.
Police are coordinating with the FRO to take further action in this case.
This incident is not isolated; previously, on August 13, Pune's special branch detained 11 Yemeni nationals and two Afghan nationals in Yevalewadi, Phursungi, and Kondhwa for illegal residency in India.
In 2022, Pune Police deported a Yemeni family of six, including three adults and three children, after they were discovered to have overstayed their visa in India.
The deported individuals were identified as Alkharraz Waled Abdurabu Ateq, 37, his wife Heba Yahya Mohammed Hussen, 33, his brother Shawqi Abdurabu Ateq, 34, along with their three minor children.
