On Sunday, the Pune Commissioner of Police revealed that a 22-year-old woman had lodged a false complaint regarding an alleged rape incident. This act was described as an effort to tarnish the reputation of Pune as a safe city for women.
Commissioner Amitesh Kumar stated, "Investigations revealed that the woman's claims were misleading to the Pune Police."
He added, "Just two days prior, an incident was reported to the Pune City Police, which was exploited to create a narrative suggesting that the safety of women in Pune has deteriorated. We mobilized all available police resources and resolved the case within 24 hours. No one should attempt to damage Pune's reputation, a city recognized for its safety, through fabricated stories."
