Pujara Analyzes Key Strategies for India's T20 World Cup Semi-Final Against England

Pujara's Insights on Harry Brook's Threat

Cheteshwar Pujara, a former Indian cricketer, has expressed that England's captain, Harry Brook, will be a significant challenge for the Indian bowlers in the upcoming semi-final of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup at Wankhede Stadium on Thursday. Pujara emphasized that the Suryakumar Yadav-led team should consistently aim for the stumps to limit Brook's scoring opportunities. Brook has been a standout performer for England in the tournament, with notable scores including 100 (51) against Pakistan, 26 against New Zealand, 4 against Sri Lanka, and 8 against Nepal. His century against Pakistan marked him as the first captain to achieve a hundred in the men's T20 World Cup.

Bowling Strategy Against Brook

During a discussion on JioHotstar, Pujara elaborated on how Indian bowlers should tackle Brook in this crucial match. He noted, "Most of his runs come from the leg side, but he is also adept on the offside. It’s essential to consider both the data and the batter's strengths. While Brook primarily scores on the leg side, he can also exploit the off-side. To dismiss him, bowlers should focus on delivering as many balls as possible on the stumps, as any miss could lead to a wicket. He tends to be vulnerable when he creates space on the off-side."

Varun Chakaravarthy's Role

Pujara also highlighted the potential impact of mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy against Brook. He stated, "Varun could be the most threatening bowler for Harry Brook because Brook enjoys playing the sweep and slog sweep. If given room on the off-side, Varun's googly can come back in and hit the stumps. Out of his three dismissals, two have been bowled. Therefore, bowlers should aim for the middle and off stump, or at most the fourth stump, avoiding wider deliveries."

Abhishek Sharma's Technical Adjustments

Pujara further discussed the improvements in Abhishek Sharma's technique, particularly regarding his stance and alignment. He remarked, "Abhishek's front-foot toe now points towards cover, and his shoulders are aligned straight. Previously, his toe pointed towards mid-off, and his shoulder was open. This new stance keeps his hands close to his body, enhancing his balance and head position."

He noted that these changes have fortified Abhishek's offside game, stating, "Abhishek is exceptionally strong on the off side. His boundary options in the fifth or sixth stump line are impressive, and his strike rate reflects that."

Pujara also mentioned that Jofra Archer's natural angle away from left-handers could benefit Abhishek. "Archer's deliveries typically move away from left-handers, which is why Abhishek has performed well against him in the past. I believe he will continue to create room for himself, aiming to score runs over point or cover at Wankhede," Pujara concluded.
