Protests Cause Disruption in Delhi's Metro Services

New Delhi, July 24 - Commuters in the national capital have expressed their frustration over the repeated closures of metro stations and traffic restrictions due to ongoing protests at Jantar Mantar. Many took to social media to question why thousands of daily travelers are facing such inconveniences.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced on Friday that the New Delhi metro station will remain closed until further notice. This closure comes after the third consecutive day of disruptions, with 17 metro stations in central Delhi already shut down, causing significant inconvenience to the public.

According to a post on 'X', the New Delhi metro station, a key interchange connecting the Yellow Line and the Airport Express Line, will not offer interchange facilities during this period. The DMRC had previously closed these stations for security reasons starting at 7:30 AM on Friday.

The closure is expected to affect thousands of daily commuters. Following the announcement, many users on 'X' raised concerns about the impact on office workers, students, and travelers. Some speculated that taxi fares booked through apps might increase due to the situation.

In response to the DMRC's decision to keep 16 stations closed, one social media user remarked that the easiest way to handle protests seems to be by inconveniencing the general public. Others questioned why individuals heading to offices, schools, and hospitals are being affected, arguing that such restrictions will not deter protesters from reaching Jantar Mantar.

One user tagged the DMRC, asking whether the metro system is funded by public taxes or private money, and requested a clear explanation for the station closures. The DMRC reiterated that the closures are for security reasons and that this arrangement will remain in place until further notice.
