Patna, Sep 24: Following a recent harassment case involving a Class 10 student in Jamui, another troubling incident has emerged in Samastipur. A video depicting the public harassment of a young girl has gone viral on social media, leading to police intervention and the detention of five suspects.
Details of the Incident
The alleged harassment occurred on Bandh Bypass Road in Jagatsinghpur village, located a few kilometers from the Samastipur district headquarters. Reports indicate that the girl was taking photographs with a male friend when a group of young men surrounded them and began to misbehave.
Viral Video and Police Response
The disturbing video, which began circulating on social media late Wednesday, reportedly shows the youths questioning the girl about her identity, verbally abusing her, and engaging in inappropriate conduct. The footage also suggests an attempt to forcibly pull her along the road.
Authorities believe that a bystander recorded the incident on a mobile device before it was widely shared. Upon learning of the video, the Samastipur Police launched an investigation to identify the individuals depicted.
Suspects Identified
As of now, police have identified two suspects, Vikas Sharma and Rahul Kumar, both from Jagatsinghpur village. Five individuals have been detained for questioning in connection with the incident, with police noting that Vikas Sharma has multiple liquor-related offenses on record.
Ongoing Investigation
Samastipur Superintendent of Police Arvind Pratap Singh stated that officials are reviewing the roles of all individuals featured in the video and have been instructed to expedite the investigation and take necessary legal actions against those involved.
Investigators are also working to verify the video's authenticity, determining the timing and location of the incident, and identifying the person who recorded it. They are assessing whether the viral footage accurately represents the events or if it has been edited.
