Opening Ceremony and Indian Representation

The opening ceremony of the 2026 Asian Games took place at the Paloma Mizuho Stadium in Aichi-Nagoya, where kabaddi star Pawan Sehrawat and Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker led the Indian delegation. India proudly showcased a contingent of 503 athletes competing in 36 different sports.

India's Early Achievements

India kicked off its medal tally at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games by securing a silver medal in the women's 10m air rifle team event, with Elavenil Valarivan, Sonam Maskar, and Vidarsa Vinod finishing in second place. Additionally, Suchika Tariyal earned a medal in women's traditional 60kg MMA after defeating Mongolia's Altanchimeg Baigalmaa in the quarterfinals. The women's hockey team also made a strong start, achieving a remarkable 19-0 victory against Uzbekistan, while the women's table tennis team triumphed with a 3-0 win over Indonesia in their Group F match.
