Protests Across Tamil Nadu

Following the arrest of opposition leader Udhayanidhi Stalin in Tamil Nadu, numerous DMK activists were detained during protests that erupted statewide. The demonstrations began outside the Madras High Court, where protesters voiced their opposition to the arrest. This action was taken due to allegations of derogatory remarks made against Chief Minister Vijay and actress Trisha.

Detentions in Thoothukudi

In Thoothukudi, protests involved blocking roads, leading to the detention of former minister P. Geetha Jeevan and several party members near the old bus stand. After Udhayanidhi Stalin's arrest by the Thanjavur East police, Geetha Jeevan labeled the action as politically motivated retaliation. Multiple legal provisions, including sections of the BNS and the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Women Harassment Act, were cited in the case against him.

Political Backlash and Statements

Leading the protests, Geetha Jeevan stated that the TVK government failed to address questions from the DMK in the assembly, resulting in the arrest of Udhayanidhi Stalin out of political vengeance. She condemned this action, asserting that the TVK government consistently suppresses democratic protests and silences the voices of the people. The DMK will never yield to such oppression.

Further Protests in Ranipet

In Ranipet district, DMK workers, led by former minister R. Gandhi, staged another protest near the Muthukaadai bus stand. The protesters accused the ruling TVK government of filing charges against Udhayanidhi Stalin out of vindictiveness and demanded his immediate release. Tensions escalated when police attempted to detain the protesters, resulting in a brief scuffle before they were taken into custody.
