Protests Erupt in Patna Over Paper Leak and Unemployment Issues

Massive Protest by NSUI in Patna

On August 4, hundreds of members from the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) marched towards the residence of the Chief Minister of Bihar in Patna. This demonstration was in response to allegations of exam paper leaks, rising unemployment, and other student-related issues. The police intervened to halt the protest, deploying water cannons to disperse the crowd. The march began in the Kotwali area and progressed towards the Chief Minister's residence, featuring independent MP Pappu Yadav, NSUI National President Vinod Jakhar, and Bihar Congress President Rajesh Ram among the participants.

Police Response and Support from Student Organizations

Barricades were set up by the police near the Income Tax roundabout to prevent the protesters from advancing. Despite the police's efforts to disperse the crowd using water cannons, the demonstrators continued to chant slogans. Approximately 15 student organizations affiliated with Patna University supported the protest, announcing a 'CM House Siege.' Their demands included action against the alleged paper leak, relief from unemployment, compensation for an injured individual during a protest in Siwan, and the release of students detained in previous demonstrations.

Statements from Protest Leaders

During the protest, independent MP Pappu Yadav emphasized the ongoing fight against those responsible for paper leaks and jeopardizing the future of the youth. He condemned the violence against young people, including threats, imprisonment, and intimidation. Yadav called for the resignation of Amit Shah, asserting that the struggle for the youth would continue under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi until their demands were met.

Arrest of NSUI President

Later, the NSUI reported that its National President Vinod Jakhar was taken into custody during the protest. The organization stated on social media that Jakhar was detained while protesting against the alleged AK-47 attack on students in Patna. They further asserted that the voices of students would not be silenced by oppression and that their fight would persist until justice was achieved.
