Escalating Protests in Los Angeles

In Los Angeles, tensions have intensified for the second day as demonstrators clashed with immigration officials. The protests, which took place in Paramount, followed a series of workplace raids conducted by armed immigration authorities across various locations in the city. The actions taken by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) sparked outrage, resulting in significant protests and multiple arrests on Friday.

Trump's Warning to State Officials

A large crowd gathered around midday on the 6400 block of Paramount, effectively halting traffic. Amid the rising tensions, former President Trump posted on his 'Truth Social' account on June 8, asserting that 'the Federal Government will intervene.' He criticized California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, stating, 'If they are unable to perform their duties, which is widely acknowledged, then the Federal Government will step in to address the situation, including riots and looting, as it should be handled!'

Governor Newsom Responds

Shortly after Trump's remarks, California Governor Gavin Newsom expressed his concerns via Twitter, stating, 'The federal government is planning to take control of the California National Guard and deploy 2,000 troops. This action is deliberately provocative and will only heighten tensions.' He emphasized that local authorities have immediate access to law enforcement support and that there is no current unmet need. Newsom added, 'The National Guard has been effectively assisting Los Angeles during the recovery process. This mission is misguided and will undermine public trust.'
