Protests Erupt in Delhi Against Lynching of Hindu Man in Bangladesh
Demonstrations Outside Bangladesh High Commission
On Tuesday, a significant protest took place outside the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi, responding to the brutal lynching of a Hindu man by an Islamic mob in Mymensingh, Bangladesh, last week. The demonstration was organized by the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP). In anticipation of potential unrest, Delhi police heightened security measures around the embassy. Some protesters attempted to breach the security barricades, but police managed to control the situation.

The crowd at the scene also tried to dismantle police barricades set up for security. Protesters were vocally condemning the incident that occurred in Dhaka, with members of the VHP and other Hindu organizations actively participating in the rally. Security agencies had already been on high alert due to the anticipated protests, and the Delhi police implemented strict security protocols to prevent any untoward incidents.
Nationwide Protests Following Lynching Incident
Protests have erupted across India in response to the lynching of 25-year-old Dipu Chandra Das, a garment factory worker, who was killed by a mob in the Baluka area of Mymensingh. He was accused of blasphemy, and following the attack, his body was burned. According to reports, police arrested two additional suspects on Sunday, bringing the total number of individuals detained in connection with the murder to twelve, as per sources from the police and the Rapid Action Battalion.

On Monday, unidentified gunmen shot Motaleb Shikdar in the head, marking him as the second leader linked to the recent violent student-led uprising in Bangladesh to be targeted. This incident occurred in the southwestern city of Khulna, just days after the assassination of prominent youth leader Sharif Osman Hadi. Mahmuida Mitu, the joint chief coordinator of the National Citizen Party (NCP), confirmed the shooting in a Facebook post, stating, "Motaleb Shikdar, head of the NCP's Khulna division, was shot just minutes ago."
