Environmental Activists Rally Against New Policy

On Saturday, environmental activists staged protests in Gurugram, Haryana, and Udaipur, Rajasthan, against a new height-based policy concerning the Aravalli mountain range. They expressed concerns that this policy could disrupt the ecological balance of one of the country's oldest mountain ranges.

In Gurugram, a significant number of activists, members of social organizations, and local residents gathered outside the residence of Minister Rao Narbir Singh to conduct a peaceful demonstration. The protesters carried banners and placards, chanting slogans such as 'Save Aravalli, Save Future' and 'No Aravalli, No Life.' They voiced deep apprehension regarding a Supreme Court order that approved the new policy.

The Supreme Court had accepted recommendations from a committee under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change concerning the Aravalli hills and mountain ranges on November 20, 2025.

In Udaipur, a large group of lawyers also protested against the new height-based policy for the Aravalli mountain range. They raised concerns about the implications of this policy, which states that only landforms at least 100 meters high will be included in the Aravalli hills.

The lawyers marched from the court premises to the district collectorate, chanting slogans. There, they submitted a memorandum addressed to the President through the additional district magistrate.
