Protest Erupts in Nalbari Demanding Justice for AASU Member
Massive Demonstration in Nalbari
Nalbari, June 1: A significant protest unfolded in Assam's Nalbari district on Monday, as members of the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) rallied for justice concerning the death of Madhurjya Barman, a 20-year-old AASU member, who was reportedly killed in a suspected attack in Gangapur.
Numerous AASU supporters participated in the protest, chanting slogans and demanding the swift apprehension of those responsible for the tragic incident.
This demonstration followed the discovery of Barman's body, while his cousin, Mridumudra Deka, was found severely injured on a roadside in Gangapur.
Deka, who is from Gangapur, is currently in critical condition and receiving treatment at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital.

Initial reports indicate that the two cousins were returning home from Nalbari town after purchasing books when the incident occurred.
“They had gone to Nalbari to buy books. While returning home, we were informed that they had met with an accident. Later, we learned that Babu was no more,” Barman's aunt recounted, visibly distressed.
Authorities suspect foul play and have initiated an investigation. Both victims were reportedly found with multiple injuries, suggesting that a sharp weapon may have been involved in the attack.
One individual, identified as Rose Ali, is reportedly under investigation in connection with the case. However, as of the latest updates, no arrests have been made.
AASU leaders expressed frustration over the slow progress of the investigation, accusing the authorities of inaction.
“So far, the police have not managed to apprehend the perpetrator. The guilty must face justice. If justice is not served, Nalbari will come to a halt. We demand the harshest punishment for the accused,” stated Bhabajit Bezbaruah, vice-president of AASU's Nalbari unit.
Another AASU member criticized the administration's inadequate response to the situation.
“More than 12 hours have passed, yet no substantial action has been taken. We insist on a thorough investigation and severe punishment for those involved,” he asserted.
Meanwhile, AASU president Utpal Sarma warned that the organization would escalate its protests statewide if justice is not achieved.
“Since yesterday, AASU members have been overwhelmed with grief and anger over this incident. Madhurjya was brutally killed, and we will not let this go unaddressed. We seek proper justice. He lost his life while trying to protect his sister. How could the accused dare to commit such a crime?” Sarma expressed.
Police confirmed that further investigations are ongoing to clarify the sequence of events and identify all individuals involved in the attack.
