Protest Erupts in Dhemaji Demanding Justice for Murder Victim

Dhemaji, May 28: A significant protest took place outside the Machkhowa police outpost in Dhemaji district on Tuesday, where hundreds gathered to demand a thorough investigation into the murder of Bikash Chetry and the apprehension of all involved perpetrators.
The demonstrators initially gathered at the Borpak Nepali Gaon Hari Mandir before marching towards the police outpost, chanting slogans against law enforcement and calling for justice for the deceased.
Various organizations participated in the protest, including the Dhemaji district branch of the Asom Gorkha Students Union, Dhemaji Jila Gorkha Mahila Samiti, TMPK's Machkhowa unit, the Machkhowa Chariali Traders' Union, Machkhowa Mahila Sajagata Sabha, and the Machkhowa Lekhika Samarooh Samiti.
When the protesters were blocked from entering the police facility, they continued their demonstration outside, insisting on a high-level inquiry into the murder and the arrest of all suspects.
Executive Magistrate Jishnu Saikia and Dhemaji Superintendent of Police Hitesh Chandra Rai arrived at the scene, assuring the crowd that their demands would be addressed.
Bikash Chetry, aged 30 and a pharmacy owner at Machkhowa Chariali, was severely injured during a brutal attack by a group on the night of May 19.
Despite being rushed to Assam Medical College and Hospital, he tragically succumbed to his injuries early Tuesday morning.
In connection with this case, police have so far detained two individuals: Simanta Saikia, 23, and Sunil Koch, 52.
