Priyanka Gandhi's Strong Remarks Against PM Modi

On Thursday, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra launched a sharp critique against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of lacking the courage to address the Lok Sabha. Speaking to reporters in the Parliament complex, she claimed that the Prime Minister was hiding behind the Speaker. She noted that he did not have the bravery to enter the House the previous day because three women were standing in front of it. "What nonsense is this? There is no discussion happening because the government does not want it to take place," she stated.

Allegations of Violence Denied

During her interaction with the media, she firmly rejected claims that there were intentions to harm the Prime Minister or raise hands against him. "It is completely false to suggest that there was any such plan. If you allow your members to stand and speak nonsense, the opposition will protest," she asserted. Priyanka Gandhi accused PM Modi of hiding behind the Lok Sabha Speaker and orchestrating the situation through him.

Context of the Remarks

Her comments came after the Lok Sabha passed a motion of thanks for the President's address, to which PM Modi traditionally did not respond. Sources indicated that the Congress party had allegedly planned to use female MPs as a shield to physically confront the Prime Minister in the lower house. Despite the Prime Minister being available to address the Lok Sabha, the Speaker decided to adjourn the session.

Opposition Disruptions in Lok Sabha

Earlier in the day, the proceedings of the Lok Sabha were repeatedly disrupted by shouting from opposition members. Meanwhile, Speaker Om Birla called for a voice vote, leading to the motion being passed without PM Modi addressing the House. He was expected to respond to the motion of thanks for the President's address, but due to continuous disruptions and shouting from opposition members, the Speaker adjourned the Lok Sabha.

Ongoing Protests Against the Government

In the meantime, the opposition has been protesting against the central government for allegedly preventing Rahul Gandhi from addressing the lower house, referencing unpublished memoirs by former Army Chief General MM Naravane regarding the 2020 China standoff.
