Priyanka Gandhi's Strong Response to Assam CM

On Wednesday, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra expressed her strong disapproval of comments made by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma regarding Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. She described the language used as utterly disgraceful and unacceptable. Gandhi urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to clarify whether he endorses such disrespectful remarks. This controversy erupted after Sarma criticized Kharge's statement, suggesting that he was 'speaking like a madman' due to old age.

Gandhi's Remarks on Kharge's Dignity

In a post written in Hindi, Gandhi emphasized that the derogatory and contemptible language used by Sarma against Kharge, who is one of the senior-most leaders in the country, is deeply shameful. She pointed out that Kharge represents not only the Congress party but also marginalized communities and Dalits. By insulting him, the Chief Minister has disrespected millions across the nation.

Call for Apology and Accountability

Gandhi further stated that Prime Minister Modi should clarify his stance on this insult to millions of Indians. Previously, the Congress party demanded an unconditional apology from Sarma, labeling his comments as 'deplorable' and indicative of an 'anti-Dalit mentality.'

Rahul Gandhi Joins the Criticism

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also condemned the Assam Chief Minister's remarks, calling them completely unacceptable and shameful. He asserted that these comments are an affront to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. He questioned the Prime Minister's silence, suggesting that if Modi remains passive while the dignity of millions of Dalits is under attack, he is not only shirking his responsibilities but also complicit in the insult. Gandhi directly asked the Prime Minister if he supports Sarma's use of such language, stating that Modi's silence signifies agreement rather than helplessness.
