Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has taken a stand against US trade advisor Peter Navarro's criticism of India's oil purchases from Russia. In her response, she highlighted that India is not the only country engaging in such transactions and questioned the lack of penalties on other nations like China. Chaturvedi emphasized that the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine does not involve India and criticized the negative impact of high tariffs on American consumers and workers. Her remarks come in light of Navarro's controversial statements linking India's actions to the war in Ukraine, raising significant concerns about international relations and economic repercussions.

Chaturvedi's Response to US Criticism

On Friday, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi targeted Peter Navarro, a trade advisor at the White House, for his comments criticizing India’s oil purchases from Russia. Expressing her frustration over repeated attacks on India by US officials, who supported President Donald Trump’s decision to impose a 50% tariff on Indian imports, Chaturvedi stated on social media that she wakes up to this nonsense about India every day.

While fact-checking Navarro's claims, she pointed out that India is not the only nation buying oil from Russia. Although she did not mention China directly, she highlighted the frequent inquiries directed at US officials regarding why no penalties have been imposed on China, the largest oil buyer. Chaturvedi emphasized that India is not alone in its dealings with Russian oil and reiterated that the conflict between Russia and Ukraine is not India's war. Her remarks followed Navarro's assertion that this conflict is 'Modi's war in Ukraine,' accusing India of indirectly fueling the war machine through its oil trade with Russia.

Chaturvedi further remarked that the actions taken by India are detrimental to everyone in the US. Consumers, businesses, and workers are all suffering due to high tariffs imposed by India, which are affecting jobs, factories, incomes, and wages. She also mentioned that taxpayers are bearing the brunt as they are being given the opportunity to fund what she referred to as Modi's war.
