Priyanka Chaturvedi Criticizes Government Over Indigo Flight Cancellations

Concerns Raised by Shiv Sena MP

On Friday, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi expressed her discontent with the government following Indigo's cancellation of numerous flights from various airports. She stated that if the Ministry of Civil Aviation is ignoring passenger issues, then its existence is pointless. In a conversation with a news agency, Chaturvedi accused the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) of neglecting travelers and prioritizing the airline's interests instead of regulating it.

Chaturvedi mentioned that she had submitted a notice for attention and expected the Civil Aviation Minister to provide updates in Parliament the following day. Unfortunately, that did not happen. Although a late-night meeting was held where some directives were issued, she questioned the effectiveness of these instructions given the ongoing flight cancellations. She urged that if the ministry cannot address rising airfares and passenger complaints, it should be disbanded.

Due to operational disruptions, all Indigo flights departing from Delhi have been canceled until midnight. Facing operational challenges, Indigo has requested a temporary operational exemption from certain flight duty time limitations for its A320 fleet until February 10, 2026, assuring that operational stability will be restored by that date, according to a statement from the DGCA.
