Day 2 Highlights of the Asian Boxing Championships


In Ulaanbaatar on March 31, Indian boxer Priya delivered an impressive performance, achieving a decisive 5:0 victory, while Jadumani Singh put up a strong fight against the top seed on the second day of the Asian Boxing Championships.


Competing in the women's 60kg division, Priya showcased her skills and composure, winning unanimously against Kazakhstan’s Rimma Volossenko. This victory allows her to advance to the next round, where she will face China's Chengyu Yang, the second seed in her category, in what is expected to be an exciting match.


In the men’s 55kg category, Jadumani faced a tough challenge against Japan’s Rui Yamaguchi, ultimately losing by a narrow 2-3 split decision. Yamaguchi, the top seed, entered the tournament with impressive credentials, including a silver medal from the Astana event and a bronze from the Boxing World Cup Finals, making him a strong contender.


Despite the odds, Jadumani fought valiantly, matching Yamaguchi blow for blow, resulting in one of the day's most closely contested bouts.


The Indian boxing team continues to show promise in the early rounds of the tournament, which features elite boxing talent from across Asia, with each match being vital for advancing towards the medal rounds.


On the first day of the championships, Indian boxers Preeti Pawar and Deepak also made a strong impression.


In the women’s 54kg category, Preeti, a gold medalist at the World Boxing Cup Finals, secured a unanimous 5-0 victory over Kazakhstan’s Elina Bazarova, a former Asian U22 champion from 2025.


Meanwhile, in the men’s 70kg category, Deepak, who previously won a silver medal at the Boxam Elite International 2026 and a bronze at the Asian Youth Boxing Championships 2022, confidently edged out Uzbekistan’s Khavasbek Asadullaev with a close 3-2 split decision.
