Modi's Second Visit to Assam Ahead of Elections

Guwahati, Apr 6: With the Assam Assembly elections just two days away, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made his second visit to the state on Monday as campaigning reaches its final stages.

During a public rally in Barpeta, Modi expressed his vision for a 'Viksit Bharat' while supporting BJP candidate Ranjeet Dass and emphasizing the importance of women's empowerment.

He highlighted the government's initiative to ensure a 33% reservation for women in legislative bodies, aiming to enhance their political representation.

“To empower women in the Assembly, we have implemented a 33% reservation. By the 2029 Lok Sabha elections, women should fully benefit from this right. A special meeting is set for April 16, and we have consulted all political parties, although some are attempting to hinder this progress,” he stated.

Modi reassured that this initiative would not disadvantage any group and encouraged women voters to advocate for support from all political parties.

In a pointed critique of the Congress party, he claimed they were on the verge of a 'century of electoral defeats'.

“The people of Assam have made two decisions: first, the BJP-led NDA will secure a third consecutive term, and second, the Congress leadership in Delhi will face a century of losses after these elections,” he asserted.

Commenting on the impressive crowd turnout, Modi remarked, “The ground is filled. Even during my years in Gujarat, I have seldom witnessed such a gathering at this time. You have set a record.”

Reaffirming the BJP's commitment to development, he stated that the party aims to elevate Assam on the global stage.

“Your vote will establish a foundation for a 'Viksit Assam'. The BJP delivers on its promises. With enhanced connectivity, sectors like tourism are flourishing,” he noted.

In a significant announcement for farmers, Modi revealed that Assam's Joha rice is now being exported to Europe.

“The aroma of Joha rice will now reach Europe. Exports have recently commenced to countries like Italy and England. This is a testament to our farmers' hard work,” he added, mentioning that the minimum support price (MSP) for paddy has risen from Rs 1,300 per quintal in 2013 to Rs 2,370 per quintal under the BJP administration.

Issuing a political warning, Modi claimed that if Congress regained power, it might enact laws that portray infiltrators as 'victims' to safeguard its vote bank.

“For them, power supersedes national interest and the rights of indigenous people,” he cautioned, urging voters to be wary of what he termed as 'misleading narratives' from the Opposition.

“Your vote is not merely for a government; it is for the safeguarding of your land, identity, and future,” he emphasized.

On the occasion of the BJP's 47th Foundation Day, Modi also conveyed his best wishes to party workers nationwide, commending their dedication to public service.

Later, Modi is expected to address rallies in Hojai for BJP candidate Shiladitya Dev and in Dibrugarh for state minister Prasanta Phukan.

Campaigning for the Assembly elections will conclude on Wednesday, with polling for the 126 constituencies scheduled for April 9 and vote counting set for May 4.
