Half-Day Holiday Declared for PM Modi's Visit
Bhubaneswar: The government of Odisha has announced a half-day holiday for all state-run offices, including revenue and executive magistrate courts, on June 20, anticipating potential traffic disruptions due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit.
A notification from the Revenue and Disaster Management department confirmed that the prime minister will be in the state capital to commemorate the first anniversary of the BJP government led by Mohan Charan Majhi.
The notification specified that the second half of June 20 will be a holiday for all government offices and courts within the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation area.
In preparation for the PM's visit, the state government also declared that all government, government-aided, and private schools in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack will be closed on the same day.
On Thursday, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi inspected Janata Maidan, the venue for the anniversary celebration, where Modi is set to be the chief guest.
Accompanied by Odisha BJP president Manohan Samal and other officials, Majhi reviewed the arrangements and emphasized the need for flawless preparations, particularly for the prime minister's arrival. He instructed that all necessary tasks should be completed by Thursday evening.
DGP YB Khurania and Additional Chief Secretary Hemant Sharma provided updates on the extensive preparations for the event.
Samal mentioned that during the event, the prime minister is expected to inaugurate development projects valued at ₹19,000 crore. He estimated that around 200,000 attendees might gather in the city for the anniversary celebration and to hear from the prime minister.
Commissioner of Police for Bhubaneswar-Cuttack, S Dev Dutta Singh, stated that comprehensive security measures have been implemented due to the anticipated large crowd at Janata Maidan.
Official reports indicate that the prime minister will arrive in Bhubaneswar at 3:40 PM, conduct a roadshow, and participate in a 'Tiranga Yatra' en route to Janata Maidan. He is expected to reach the venue by 4:15 PM for the program, which will last until approximately 5:30 PM, before departing for the airport at 5:35 PM.
