Prime Minister Modi's Upcoming Visit to Uttar Pradesh: Key Developments and Initiatives
Overview of Modi's Visit to Uttar Pradesh
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a two-day visit to Uttar Pradesh. During this trip, he is scheduled to participate in a women's conference in Varanasi, inaugurate and lay the foundation for various development projects worth approximately ₹6,350 crores, and address a public gathering in his parliamentary constituency.
Inauguration of Ganga Expressway and New Train Services
According to an official announcement, on Wednesday, Modi will travel to Hardoi, where he will inaugurate the Ganga Expressway and address a gathering. He will dedicate 48 projects to the nation, which have been completed at a cost exceeding ₹1,050 crores, and lay the foundation for 112 projects worth around ₹5,300 crores. Notable projects include the widening of the Varanasi-Azamgarh road, rail overbridges in Kajjakpura and Kadipur, and a sewage treatment plant in Bhagwanpur with a capacity of 55 MLD. To enhance rail connectivity between Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, Modi will flag off two new Amrit Bharat Express trains from Varanasi to Pune (Hadapsar) and from Ayodhya to Mumbai (Lokmanya Tilak Terminus). This initiative is expected to significantly benefit pilgrims, students, migrant workers, and small traders in the state, which attracts millions of devotees to its major religious sites, Varanasi and Ayodhya, each year.
Details of the Ganga Expressway
As per the official schedule, Modi will visit the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi for prayers around 8:30 AM before heading to Hardoi, where he will inaugurate the Ganga Expressway at approximately 11:30 AM. This expressway, constructed at a cost of around ₹36,230 crores, spans 594 kilometers and features six lanes, connecting various districts including Meerut, Bulandshahr, Hapur, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Raebareli, Pratapgarh, and Prayagraj. The project aims to reduce travel time between Meerut and Prayagraj from the current 10-12 hours to about six hours. A notable feature of this expressway is a 3.5-kilometer-long airstrip in Shahjahanpur district, which holds economic significance and is crucial for national security.
Strengthening the Pilgrimage Circuit
The statement highlighted that the Ganga Expressway will also enhance the pilgrimage circuit, making access to major religious sites such as Garhmukteshwar, Kalki Dham, Belha Devi Dham, Chandrika Devi Shakti Peeth, and Triveni Sangam much easier. It noted that devotees will now be able to visit multiple pilgrimage sites in a single trip, thereby increasing the duration of religious tourism, associated expenses, and local economic activities. This expressway is set to become the backbone of the state's extensive expressway network, which includes the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, Jewar Link Expressway, Farrukhabad Link Expressway, and the proposed extension from Meerut to Haridwar.
