Prime Minister Modi's Two-Day Visit to Assam

Starting Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a two-day trip to Assam. According to an official, he is set to inaugurate two Amrit Bharat trains and lay the foundation stone for the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor during this visit. This marks his second trip to the northeastern state in less than a month, ahead of the assembly elections scheduled for the first half of 2026. Upon his arrival on the evening of January 17, Modi will witness a performance of the Bodo folk dance 'Bagurumba' by 10,000 artists at the Arjun Bhogeshwar Barua Sports Stadium.

The following day, Modi will travel to Kaliabor to lay the foundation stone for the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor, which is being constructed at a cost of ₹6,957 crores. He will also virtually flag off two Amrit Bharat Express trains, namely Dibrugarh-Gomti Nagar (Lucknow) and Kamakhya-Rohtak, and address a public gathering in Kaliabor. Previously, on December 20, Modi visited Assam for two days, where he inaugurated a new terminal at Guwahati International Airport and unveiled a statue of Gopinath Bordoloi, the first Chief Minister of Assam, after whom the airport is named.

During his last visit, he also laid the foundation stone for an ammonia-urea plant in Dibrugarh, which is being developed at a cost of ₹10,601 crores. His previous engagements included addressing public meetings in Guwahati and Namrup, setting the stage for the upcoming Assam assembly elections in 2026.
