Prime Minister Modi's Strong Message on Terrorism During Sikkim Statehood Celebration
A Decisive Stand Against Terrorism
During a recent address in Gangtok, Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the Pahalgam terror attack that occurred last month, labeling it an assault on India's essence and unity. He characterized the subsequent Operation Sindoor as a robust response to the terrorists involved.
Modi emphasized the nation's solidarity in combating terrorism, stating that India retaliated effectively by dismantling terror infrastructure and targeting multiple airbases in Pakistan.
He described the Pahalgam incident as a calculated effort to incite division within India along religious lines, asserting, "We conveyed a strong message that India remains united, despite the terror attack that affected many of our sisters."
The tragic attack on April 22 resulted in the deaths of at least 26 individuals, primarily tourists, and the brutal nature of the killings, which involved terrorists inquiring about the victims' faith, left the nation in mourning and outrage.
Speaking at the 50th anniversary of Sikkim's statehood at Paljor Stadium, Modi praised the Himalayan state as a source of national pride, highlighting its citizens' commitment to democracy.
Although he expressed regret for missing the celebrations due to bad weather, he promised to visit Sikkim in the future.
Modi stated, "Operation Sindoor was a fitting response to the terror unleashed in Pahalgam. The actions of the terrorists were an affront to humanity, and we stand united in our fight against terrorism," as he addressed the audience virtually from Bagdogra in West Bengal.
The Prime Minister inaugurated several infrastructure projects, including a 500-bed District Hospital in Namchi, a passenger ropeway at Pelling, and a statue of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Gangtok.
He also laid the groundwork for additional projects, such as a district hospital in Pakyong and a visitor experience center at Nathula.
Modi congratulated Sikkim on reaching its 50-year milestone of statehood, expressing his happiness that the people chose to be part of a democratic India focused on development and prosperity.
He commended Sikkim for exemplifying the harmony between biodiversity and spiritualism, noting its rich natural heritage and commitment to conservation.
Despite its small size, Sikkim has emerged as a popular tourist destination, attracting around one million visitors annually.
Recalling the achievements of notable athletes from Sikkim, Modi highlighted the state's potential to become a center for sports activities, asserting that the NDA government is committed to transforming India into a sports powerhouse.
He expressed a desire for the Northeast, including Sikkim, to advance in this direction, emphasizing the state's capacity to become a hub for adventure sports.
The Prime Minister also noted Sikkim's progress in increasing organic exports, which he deemed a significant accomplishment, and reiterated that enhancing connectivity remains a priority for the government, with the Sevoke-Rangpo project set to integrate the state into the national rail network.
