Auckland, July 11: A large crowd gathered at Spark Arena in Auckland to attend an event hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Indian community in New Zealand. The atmosphere was lively, filled with cultural performances, patriotic chants, and traditional attire, showcasing the vibrant spirit of the diaspora.
Participants donned colorful traditional outfits from various regions of India, expressing their enthusiasm for the Prime Minister's visit. Many attendees shared their anticipation for this significant occasion.
One community member remarked, "Everyone is looking forward to the Prime Minister's arrival." Another added, "We are thrilled to welcome PM Modi here."
The venue echoed with chants of "Modi, Modi" and "Bharat Mata ki Jai," as thousands gathered to greet the Prime Minister, highlighting the excitement within the Indian community in New Zealand.
The celebratory mood was amplified as attendees prepared for various cultural performances while awaiting the Prime Minister's entrance on stage.
Indian flags and New Zealand's national colors waved throughout the venue, symbolizing the strong ties and friendship between the two nations.
Earlier on Friday, PM Modi received a warm welcome from the Indian community upon his arrival at his hotel in Auckland.
Expressing his gratitude, the Prime Minister noted that he was deeply touched by the enthusiastic reception from the Indian community in New Zealand. He remarked that the displayed enthusiasm reflected the diaspora's strong connection to India.
He commended the Indian community for preserving India's cultural heritage across generations and continents, while also enhancing the enduring ties between India and New Zealand.
Sharing moments from the cultural performances on X, PM Modi stated: “I was delighted to witness a vibrant celebration of India’s rich cultural heritage during the community welcome in Auckland this evening. The performances highlighted the cultures of Punjab, Tamil Nadu, a blend of Carnatic and Hindustani classical music, and a powerful rendition of Vande Mataram."
"I applaud our diaspora for keeping India’s cultural heritage alive across generations and continents and for strengthening the enduring bonds between India and New Zealand," he added.
Prime Minister Modi also praised the Naad Vocal Ensemble's musical performance, emphasizing that such cultural expressions serve as a bridge between people and reflect the growing warmth in India-New Zealand relations.
"I was delighted to witness the wonderful performance by the Naad Vocal Ensemble. Music has a unique ability to unite people, and today's performance beautifully illustrated the warmth and depth of India-New Zealand friendship," PM Modi shared on X.
PM Modi arrived in Auckland on Friday evening for the concluding leg of his three-nation tour. In a notable gesture, New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon welcomed him at the airport. This visit marks the first official trip by an Indian Prime Minister to New Zealand in four decades.
During their meeting, Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Luxon engaged in talks aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation across various sectors, including business, trade, defense, and people-to-people connections.
