Prime Minister Modi Welcomes Paraguay's President for Bilateral Talks
Meeting Between Leaders
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently met with Santiago Peña Palacios, the President of Paraguay, who is on a three-day visit to India aimed at reviewing bilateral relations and exploring ways to enhance overall cooperation. The two leaders convened at Hyderabad House in New Delhi. Prior to their meeting, President Peña paid homage at Mahatma Gandhi's memorial at Rajghat. This visit is part of his three-day trip to India, which will conclude on June 4.
Lunch Hosted by PM Modi
In honor of the visiting leader, Prime Minister Modi will host a lunch. Additionally, President Droupadi Murmu is scheduled to meet with President Peña and will also organize a banquet in his honor. According to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will also engage with the visiting President. The upcoming state visit will provide an opportunity for leaders to conduct a comprehensive review of bilateral relations and discuss regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Significance of the Meeting
Paraguay is a key trade partner for India in the Latin American region. Several Indian companies in the automotive and pharmaceutical sectors have established a presence in Paraguay, while some Paraguayan firms are also operating in India, primarily through joint ventures. The Ministry of External Affairs noted that diplomatic relations between India and Paraguay were established on September 13, 1961, fostering cordial and friendly ties between the two nations. Both countries have developed cooperation across various sectors, including trade, agriculture, health, pharmaceuticals, and information technology. Furthermore, they share common views on several international issues such as UN reforms, climate change, renewable energy, and combating terrorism.
