On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his best wishes to Ashok Lahiri, the newly appointed Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog, along with other full-time members of the government's premier policy think tank. This meeting in New Delhi marked Lahiri's first official engagement in his new role. Lahiri Meets Modi After Taking Office
Following his appointment, Lahiri, who is also a BJP MLA from Bengal, met with PM Modi in Delhi. While details of their discussion remain undisclosed, the meeting is considered significant due to the think tank's vital role in shaping India's economic policy framework. Alongside Lahiri, another notable figure from Bengal, scientist Gobardhan Das, has also been appointed as a full-time member of the think tank. Additionally, senior advisor from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Dilip Mandal, congratulated Lahiri, remarking on his stature as one of India's leading economists and his involvement in religious events, stating that he will play a key role in guiding the country's policy direction.
Background of Ashok Lahiri
A former student of the Economics Department at Presidency University in Kolkata, Ashok Lahiri has held various research, teaching, and leadership positions at institutions such as the Delhi School of Economics, the Asian Development Bank, Bandhan Bank, and the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy.
