Prime Minister Modi to Launch Major Development Projects in Daman
Prime Minister's Upcoming Visit to Daman
On June 5, a city-wide cleanliness campaign will be organized in Daman to express commitment towards sanitation, coinciding with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit. During this visit, he will inaugurate development projects worth approximately ₹2,970 crores, dedicating them to the nation and laying the foundation for new initiatives.
The Prime Minister's itinerary includes a tour of Gujarat and the Union Territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, as well as Daman and Diu. He is set to unveil over ₹21,700 crores worth of development projects across key sectors such as infrastructure, healthcare, connectivity, aviation, and industry.
Starting the Tour in Surat
The Prime Minister will kick off his tour in Surat, where he will review industrial projects and infrastructure initiatives in Hazira before attending a public gathering. He plans to inaugurate projects worth around ₹18,800 crores aimed at enhancing road connectivity, power infrastructure, and industrial growth in Gujarat. Notably, he will dedicate packages VI and VII of the Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway, which is expected to boost high-speed transport, improve logistics efficiency, and strengthen economic ties between Gujarat and Maharashtra.
Infrastructure Developments and Healthcare Initiatives
Additionally, he will lay the foundation stone for the construction of four-lane sections of National Highway-56, which is anticipated to improve connectivity in tribal areas and facilitate access to the Statue of Unity. In the healthcare sector, the Prime Minister will inaugurate a 200-bed Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) hospital in Surat, which will provide secondary health services across various specialties and offer 24/7 emergency and trauma care.
Utility and Industrial Infrastructure Projects
The Prime Minister will also inaugurate several utility and industrial infrastructure projects, including the expansion of the transmission network under the interstate transmission system, power distribution upgrades in Valsad, and waste treatment and disposal infrastructure in the Dahej Petroleum, Chemicals, and Petrochemicals Investment Region, along with utility facilities in the Jamnagar Bulk Drug Park. Later in the evening, he will head to Daman to inaugurate the new terminal building at Namo Airport and dedicate Namo Hospital to the nation. This event will also see the inauguration or dedication of development projects worth around ₹1,340 crores.
Strengthening Regional Connectivity
The new airport terminal is expected to enhance regional air connectivity and stimulate economic activities in the area. Namo Hospital, developed as a district hospital in Daman, has the capacity to treat approximately 1,500 outpatients daily, which is anticipated to improve access to quality healthcare services. Furthermore, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation for projects worth around ₹1,630 crores in Daman, including an iconic bridge, the Daman Convention Center, and the campus of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT). These initiatives are expected to promote tourism, attract investments, create job opportunities, and enhance public infrastructure.
