Jaipur Metro Phase-2 Announcement

On July 4, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Rajasthan Refinery in Balotra, during which he will also lay the foundation stone for Phase-2 of the Jaipur Metro Rail project. This initiative is expected to enhance connectivity for key industrial areas such as Sitapura and VKIA, providing improved transportation options for the public.

The second phase of the Jaipur Metro will feature a 41-kilometer north-south corridor extending from Prahladpura to Todi Mode. This corridor will serve as a vital link connecting industrial and residential zones from Sitapura to VKIA, effectively acting as the lifeline of Jaipur. The project will include a total of 36 stations, with an estimated cost exceeding ₹13,037 crores. The Rajasthan Metro Rail Corporation Limited, a joint venture between the central and state governments, will oversee its implementation.

This new corridor will ensure seamless connectivity to major locations such as the Sitapura Industrial Area, VKIA, Jaipur Airport, Tonk Road, SMS Hospital, the stadium, the collectorate, the railway station, Ambabari, and Vidyadhar Nagar. Additionally, underground stations will be constructed in the airport area to facilitate a cohesive metro network throughout the city.

The Letter of Acceptance (LOA) for the first package of the 12-kilometer stretch has already been issued. Notably, the Phase-1 project currently operates an 11.64-kilometer metro service from Mansarovar to Badi Chaupar, featuring 11 stations. The proposed Phase-2 will expand this network further southward. Following approval from the central cabinet, the Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation Limited has issued the LOA for the first package of Phase-2, which involves an investment of over ₹918.04 crores for the design and construction of an elevated viaduct and 10 elevated stations, including Prahladpura, Manpura, Beelwa Kalan, Beelwa, Goner Mode, Sitapura, JECC, Kumbha Marg, Haldighati Gate, and Pinjarapol Gaushala.

Once completed, this project will significantly enhance multi-modal connectivity in Jaipur, integrating metro services with transportation options at the airport, railway station, and bus stands. Plans are also underway to operate buses connecting nearby towns like Chaksu and Chomu to the nearest Prahladpura and Todi stations.

Currently, around 50,000 passengers utilize the Jaipur Metro daily. With the completion of Phase-2, this number is projected to rise to approximately 250,000 daily, potentially exceeding 400,000 in the coming years.
