Prime Minister Modi Reviews Assam Flood Situation Amid Ongoing Relief Efforts

Guwahati, July 26: In a clear indication of the Centre's intensified attention towards the flood crisis in Assam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted a review of the situation for the second consecutive day. He engaged in discussions with Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal after previously obtaining updates from Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
In a social media update, Sonowal shared that the Prime Minister thoroughly assessed the flood circumstances and reaffirmed the Centre's dedication to providing comprehensive support for relief, rehabilitation, and reconstruction initiatives.
“Modi ji has always prioritized Assam. Demonstrating his commitment to prompt action, an Inter-Ministerial team has already arrived in Assam and is swiftly moving to the affected regions,” Sonowal stated.
Currently in Dibrugarh to evaluate the situation firsthand, the Union Minister emphasized that the Centre stands firmly with the people of Assam, pledging all necessary aid for relief and rehabilitation efforts.
The Centre's response has accelerated with the arrival of a six-member Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) in Dibrugarh to evaluate the flood damage in Upper Assam.
This team is currently visiting Charaideo, Sivasagar, Jorhat, and Golaghat districts until July 29, conducting review meetings with local administrations while inspecting flooded areas, relief camps, and damaged infrastructure. Their findings will guide recommendations for central assistance to the state.
Previously, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had also reached out to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to inquire about the flood situation and informed him of the inter-ministerial team's visit to assess the devastation caused by the floods, which have resulted in 66 fatalities this year.
Meanwhile, relief operations led by the Indian Air Force and local administrations are ongoing across the affected regions.
Chief Minister Sarma noted that the receding floodwaters in certain areas have facilitated more effective aerial relief operations.
“With some dry patches now available due to the water receding, the airdrops are becoming more targeted and benefiting a larger number of individuals,” the Chief Minister mentioned in a social media update.
The Prime Minister's latest review occurred a day after he spoke with Chief Minister Sarma to evaluate the flood situation and assured the state of the Centre's unwavering support.
