Prime Minister Modi Launches New Train Service Connecting Katra and Srinagar

Inauguration of the Train Service
On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated two specially designed Vande Bharat trains that will operate between Katra and Srinagar. This direct rail link marks a significant milestone for the region, promising to enhance the development, trade, and tourism in Kashmir while integrating it more closely with the rest of the country.
Local Leaders React
Farooq Abdullah, the president of the National Conference, expressed his support for the new train service, stating that it would benefit both locals and tourists. Speaking to reporters before boarding the train, he remarked, “I am very pleased to travel to Katra today. This is extremely beneficial for us.” Abdullah was accompanied by several party colleagues during the journey.
Benefits of the New Service
The former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir emphasized that this train service provides a reliable transportation option for the people of the valley, connecting them to the rest of India. He noted, “The road between Srinagar and Jammu sometimes gets closed, leading airlines to hike prices, which can exploit the public. The introduction of this train will alleviate that issue.” Abdullah also highlighted the advantages for the horticulture sector in Kashmir, as it will enable quicker delivery of produce to markets. He added, “This will also benefit tourists visiting Kashmir.”
