Prime Minister Modi Honors Retiring Rajya Sabha Members for Their Contributions
Acknowledging Contributions of Retiring Members
On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the contributions of retiring members of the Rajya Sabha, highlighting their role in strengthening parliamentary traditions and democratic values. During the farewell session, he remarked that the upper house serves as a continuous institution where experience and knowledge are invaluable. Addressing the members, PM Modi emphasized that there is no pause in politics, stressing that the journey of public service continues even after formal tenures. He also underscored the importance of learning from seasoned leaders, encouraging younger members to draw inspiration and guidance from their experienced counterparts.
Reflections on Political Journey
Modi noted that various topics are discussed within the house, with everyone making significant contributions, including both sweet and sour experiences. He expressed that during such occasions, it is natural for everyone to rise above party sentiments and share a common feeling that their colleagues are moving on to other important roles. He mentioned that some of those bidding farewell today are doing so with hopes of returning, while others are transitioning to contribute meaningfully to society based on their experiences in the house. For those departing without plans to return, he reassured them that there are no full stops in politics, and their experiences and contributions will always remain part of the nation's life.
Learning from Senior Leaders
The Prime Minister remarked that among the departing members are some whose terms may conclude when the house is not in session, while others are receiving farewells during the session. He specifically acknowledged senior leaders like Deve Gowda, Kharge, and Sharad Pawar, noting that they have dedicated a significant portion of their lives to parliamentary processes. He encouraged new MPs to learn from their commitment to the house and to contribute as much as they can, emphasizing the importance of being fully dedicated to the responsibilities entrusted to them by society. He expressed his deep appreciation for their contributions.
Farewell to Vice Chairman Harivansh
Modi also mentioned that Vice Chairman Harivansh is among those taking leave. Harivansh has had the opportunity to serve in this house for an extended period, known for his gentle demeanor and continuous efforts to earn the trust of all members while managing the house. Every two years, a significant group departs, but this system allows the new group to learn from their predecessors. He expressed confidence that those who remain will benefit from the experiences of those leaving, and their contributions will further enrich the house.
