Significant Changes in Assam Over the Last Decade
On April 1, Prime Minister Narendra Modi remarked on the substantial changes that have taken place in Assam over the past ten years. Speaking at a public gathering in Biswanath, he noted that improved connectivity and infrastructure have altered public perceptions of the state. Once known for its underdevelopment, Assam now surprises many with its progress.
He cited the state's highways, which are now capable of accommodating fighter jet landings, as evidence of the remarkable advancements in connectivity.
Positive Developments and Ongoing Projects
Modi emphasized that until a decade ago, visitors to Assam were often shocked by its backwardness. However, the current state of connectivity has brought joy and positive astonishment to many. Recently, the world witnessed Assam's highways being used for fighter aircraft landings.
He also highlighted the efforts made by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to tackle challenges such as floods and landslides in Assam, mentioning ongoing projects worth hundreds of crores and announcing an additional proposed allocation of ₹18,000 crores for security measures.
Commitment to Addressing Flood and Landslide Issues
The Prime Minister stated that the BJP is sincerely working to resolve significant issues like floods and landslides in Assam. Currently, numerous projects worth crores are underway to address these challenges. The Assam BJP has announced an additional expenditure of ₹18,000 crores for flood and landslide prevention.
In terms of women's empowerment, Modi pointed out the achievements made in enhancing women's safety, income, and access to education over the last decade. He mentioned the 'Lakhpati Didi' initiative, which has economically empowered many women in Assam, with a goal to increase this number to 4 million.
Empowering Women and Youth
He noted that unprecedented work has been done in various areas, including women's safety, income, and education in the past 10-11 years. Under the Lakhpati Didi campaign, millions of women in Assam have become financially independent. The BJP's manifesto promises to make 4 million sisters 'Lakhpati Didi' in the future.
Emphasizing the role of youth, Modi stated that the development of roads, bridges, and modern rail connectivity will boost agriculture, industry, and tourism, thereby creating job opportunities.
