On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi set off for a three-day visit to Seychelles. During this trip, he will participate in the golden jubilee celebrations of the island nation's National Day and engage in bilateral discussions with President Patrick Herminie to strengthen ties between the two countries.

Before his departure, Modi expressed in a statement that Seychelles is a vital maritime neighbor for India and a key partner in India's shared commitment to the 'Vision Ocean' and the 'Global South.' He conveyed his eagerness for the upcoming bilateral talks aimed at enhancing the enduring friendship between the two nations.

Strengthening Ties and Promoting Prosperity

He stated, "Together, we will work towards advancing the progress of our peoples and promoting security and prosperity in the Indian Ocean region." Modi's visit, scheduled from June 27 to 29, is at the invitation of President Herminie, where he will be the chief guest at the National Day golden jubilee celebrations.

In a post on social media, he mentioned, "I am heading to Seychelles to participate in their National Day celebrations, which is particularly special this year as it marks the golden jubilee." He also highlighted that this year marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Seychelles, emphasizing that their relationship is built on mutual trust, shared democratic values, respect for diversity, and deep connections between their peoples.

Historic Address and Community Engagement

Modi expressed his anticipation for discussions aimed at further solidifying their longstanding friendship, building on President Herminie's successful state visit to India in February 2026. He noted, "We will work together to advance our peoples' progress and promote security and prosperity in the Indian Ocean region."

During his visit, Modi will address the Seychelles National Assembly, making him the first Indian Prime Minister to do so. He remarked that this historic occasion symbolizes the strong democratic values and parliamentary traditions that connect both nations.

The Prime Minister also looks forward to meeting the vibrant Indian community in Seychelles, which has played a significant role in strengthening the special friendship between India and Seychelles over generations, acting as a lively bridge between the two countries.

Strengthening Maritime Cooperation

Modi expressed confidence that his visit would deepen the long-standing relations between the two countries, enhance maritime cooperation in the Indian Ocean region, and advance their shared vision for a secure, peaceful, and prosperous Indian Ocean.

Officials have indicated that a contingent from the Indian Armed Forces and two naval ships will also participate in the celebrations. Modi previously visited Seychelles in 2015, and the two nations have maintained a close partnership based on shared historical, cultural, and interpersonal ties.
