Shivakumar Takes Oath as 34th Chief Minister
D.K. Shivakumar took the oath of office in a ceremony held at Lok Bhavan, marking a significant leadership transition in the state. Senior Congress leader G. Parameshwara was sworn in as Deputy Chief Minister during the event. Carrying a copy of the Constitution of India as a symbol of the occasion, Shivakumar took his oath in the presence of senior Congress leaders, religious figures, and dignitaries from across India.

Among the attendees were Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, and Congress General Secretary (Organization) K.C. Venugopal, showcasing the party's unified support for the new state leadership. Shivakumar, a prominent leader in Karnataka, has represented the Kanakapura assembly constituency for eight consecutive terms and has been the President of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee since 2020. His pivotal role in the party's victory in the 2023 Karnataka Assembly elections and strengthening the party's organization at the state level was acknowledged.
Seeking Blessings Before the Ceremony
Prior to the ceremony, Shivakumar sought blessings from religious leaders and touched his mother's feet to receive her blessings before taking the oath. The event was also attended by senior party leaders, including Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, who praised Shivakumar's long-term contributions to the Congress party.
