Prime Minister Modi Concludes Ethiopia Visit, Heads to Oman
Modi's Farewell from Ethiopia
Addis Ababa, Dec 17: Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrapped up his two-day trip to Ethiopia and departed for Oman, marking the final stop of his three-nation tour. In a warm gesture, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali personally drove PM Modi to the airport, bidding him farewell as he boarded his flight to Oman. This was not the first time Abiy Ahmed showcased his hospitality; he had also welcomed PM Modi at the airport the previous day and drove him to his hotel.
Earlier that day, both leaders participated in planting a sapling in Addis Ababa as part of the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam Initiative.'
During his visit, PM Modi addressed the Ethiopian Parliament, drawing connections between India's 'Vande Mataram' and Ethiopia's national anthem, 'March Forward, Dear Mother Ethiopia.' He highlighted how both nations refer to their land as 'mother,' symbolizing a shared cultural perspective.
"It was a tremendous honor to speak before the Ethiopian Parliament today. The rich history and culture of Ethiopia command deep respect. I reaffirmed India's dedication to enhancing our partnership, founded on shared values and a mutual vision for peace and development," PM Modi shared on X before his departure for Oman.
In his speech, he emphasized the pride both nations take in their heritage and the importance of protecting their motherlands. He quoted, "With the mantra of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayaas,' we reflect our emotional ties to our homeland, which resonates with our shared outlook."
PM Modi also noted that scientific research has traced some of humanity's earliest footprints back to Ethiopia. He remarked, "When the world refers to 'Lucy of Dinkinesh,' it signifies not just fossils but a shared beginning for all of us, whether in Addis Ababa or Ayodhya. In India, we believe in 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,' meaning 'The world is one family.' This reminds us that despite political and geographical differences, we share a common origin. If our beginnings are intertwined, so too must be our destinies."
Following his address, PM Modi expressed his pleasure in engaging with Ethiopian ministers and MPs. He also laid a wreath at the Adwa Victory Monument and visited the Adwa Museum, where officials provided insights into Ethiopia's history.
During his stay, he was honored with Ethiopia's highest civilian award, the 'Great Honour Nishan of Ethiopia,' to which he expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Ethiopian government and its people.
PM Modi received a warm welcome upon his arrival in Ethiopia on Tuesday.
