New Delhi, April 13: On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep respect for the martyrs of Jallianwala Bagh, emphasizing that their sacrifices serve as a significant reminder of the unyielding spirit of the Indian populace.
In a post on social media platform 'X', PM Modi remarked, "Today, we honor the courageous martyrs of Jallianwala Bagh. Their sacrifices remind us of the unbreakable spirit of our people. The bravery and resolve they exhibited continue to motivate future generations to uphold the principles of freedom, justice, and dignity."
Additionally, he shared, "I pay my respects to all the immortal martyrs of the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre. Their story of unwavering courage against the cruelty of colonial rule will inspire every generation of our nation."
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also took to 'X', stating, "On this day, the brutal nature of the British regime was revealed in Punjab's Jallianwala Bagh, where unarmed citizens gathered for a peaceful assembly were met with indiscriminate gunfire."
He added that this atrocious event profoundly affected the nation, igniting the spirit of freedom in revolutionaries like Bhagat Singh and Udham Singh. "This marked a pivotal moment that revitalized the revolutionary fervor in India's quest for independence. I humbly pay my respects to the immortal martyrs who gave their lives at Jallianwala Bagh," he concluded.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also paid tribute, stating, "This day serves as a reminder of one of the most tragic events in India’s history. The massacre of unarmed civilians at Jallianwala Bagh in 1919 shook the conscience of the nation and reinforced the determination of Indians in their struggle for freedom. This tragedy remains a powerful reminder of the sacrifices that shaped our independence movement. On this solemn occasion, I extend my heartfelt tributes to the brave martyrs who sacrificed their lives for our nation's freedom. Vande Mataram."
Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri joined in, saying, "I stand with the nation in honoring the martyrs of Jallianwala Bagh on the anniversary of one of the most brutal massacres of innocent Indians by a tyrannical empire. Our freedom movement cannot be fully acknowledged without recognizing the supreme sacrifices made by these martyrs."
