Celebration of Somnath Amrut Mahotsav

On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in rituals at the Somnath Temple to commemorate the Somnath Amrut Mahotsav. This celebration marks the 75th anniversary of the inauguration of the temple, which was reconstructed by India's first President, Rajendra Prasad. During Modi's visit, grand ceremonies took place at the temple, which is one of the twelve revered Jyotirlingas dedicated to Lord Shiva, attracting a large crowd of devotees.

As part of the festivities, flower petals were showered from helicopters over the temple grounds. Before entering the temple, Modi paid homage at the statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel during a roadshow in Somnath. Earlier in the day, he addressed a public gathering along the route to the temple, where enthusiastic supporters gathered to welcome him.

Gujarat's Deputy Chief Minister, Harsh Sanghvi, had previously announced that Modi would attend the Somnath Amrut Mahotsav and later inaugurate Sardar Dham in Vadodara on the same day. Sanghvi informed that Modi would arrive in Jamnagar on the night of May 10, where locals were excitedly gathering to greet the Prime Minister, who has led the BJP to significant victories across various states.

Prior to his visit, Modi shared an editorial discussing the historical and cultural significance of the Somnath Temple. In a post on X, he mentioned that he had written about his upcoming trip to Somnath on May 11, emphasizing why this day would always hold importance in the context of Somnath and our civilization's greatness. He also paid tribute to all those who have defended Somnath and restored its dignity amidst various challenges.
