A New Chapter for Jammu and Kashmir

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi remarked that the removal of Articles 370 and 35A seven years ago marked the beginning of a transformative new era for Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. Since the constitutional changes on August 5, 2019, significant advancements have been made in infrastructure, education, healthcare, entrepreneurship, and social empowerment in these regions.

Under Modi's leadership, the central government abrogated Article 370, which stripped Jammu and Kashmir of its special status and divided the state into two Union Territories: Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.

Empowerment Through Constitutional Changes

In a post on X, the Prime Minister highlighted that on this day seven years ago, Articles 370 and 35(A) became part of history, ushering in a decisive new chapter for Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. He emphasized that the Indian Constitution has empowered women and marginalized communities who had been deprived of their rights for decades. Since then, there have been substantial improvements in the lives of the people in these regions, with expanded infrastructure and increased opportunities in education, healthcare, entrepreneurship, and sports.

Women and marginalized groups, who were long denied their fundamental constitutional rights, have gained empowerment due to the full implementation of the Indian Constitution.

A Historic Anniversary

Prime Minister Modi noted that the seventh anniversary of this decision coincides with the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee. He stated that Mukherjee's dream of national unity was realized on August 5, 2019, and his lifelong dedication to national unity will continue to inspire future generations. The vision he had decades ago became a historic reality on that date.

The Prime Minister reiterated the government's commitment to the development of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, promising that every citizen will have the opportunity to contribute to the creation of a 'developed India.' He affirmed the resolve to ensure that every citizen can dream big, achieve those dreams, and play a role in building a 'developed India.'
