Celebrating Bodo Heritage

On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the traditional cultural event 'Bagurumba Dwo 2026' in Guwahati, Assam, where he attempted to play the traditional instrument 'Sergja'. During the event, he was honored for his presence. Over 10,000 artists from the Bodo community came together to perform the Bagurumba dance. Modi expressed his fortune in having the opportunity to closely observe Assam's culture and Bodo traditions, noting that no other Prime Minister has visited Assam as frequently as he has.

Promoting Assam's Art and Culture

Modi emphasized his long-standing desire for Assam's art and culture to receive a larger platform, aiming for its recognition both nationally and internationally through grand events. He mentioned previous efforts, including significant Bihu celebrations and the grand Bodoland Festival held in Delhi a year and a half ago. He stated that he never misses an opportunity to experience the joy found in Assam's artistic expressions.

A Celebration of Bodo Traditions

The Prime Minister remarked that the Bagurumba Daho is not merely a festival but a means to honor the rich Bodo heritage and remember its great figures. He noted that the BJP government considers it a privilege to respect every aspect of Assam's legacy. Coincidentally, the event coincided with the death anniversary of Jyoti Prasad Agarwala, to whom he paid tribute. Modi highlighted that Assam's confidence, strength, and progress contribute significantly to India's growth narrative, with the state rapidly establishing its identity as a forward-moving region.

Transformative Changes in Assam

Expressing his emotions, Modi reflected on Assam's remarkable progress. He contrasted the past, marked by violence, with the present, where cultural vibrancy flourishes. He noted that areas once filled with the sounds of gunfire now resonate with the sweet melodies of traditional instruments. The transformation from unrest to celebrations like Bagurumba is a collective achievement for all of India, and every citizen should take pride in Assam's evolution.

Impact of the Bodo Peace Accord

Modi pointed out that the 2020 Bodo Peace Accord put an end to years of conflict, restoring trust and encouraging thousands of youth to abandon violence in favor of mainstream society. He praised the talented Bodo youth who are now cultural ambassadors for Assam and making their mark in sports. He criticized certain political parties, particularly the Congress, for opposing Assam's recognition and development initiatives, including the Bharat Ratna award for Bhupen Hazarika and semiconductor units in the state.
