Upcoming Visits by Key Leaders

Guwahati, Jan 4: As the Assam Assembly elections approach, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Sunday that both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are anticipated to visit the state later this month.

During a felicitation event in Changsari, North Guwahati, Sarma revealed that Modi has been invited to Assam on January 17 and 18, while Shah is expected on January 29.

“We have extended invitations to the Prime Minister for January 17 and 18, and to the Union Home Minister for January 29,” the Chief Minister stated, noting that the specific itineraries for these visits are still being finalized and will be disclosed once confirmed.

If confirmed, this visit would mark Modi's 37th trip to Assam in the last 11 years.

Preparations are already in motion for what is anticipated to be one of the largest cultural events in the state, featuring a mass Bagurumba dance at the Sarusajai Sports Complex on January 17, with around 10,000 dancers expected to participate.

On January 2, Sarma, accompanied by Cultural Affairs Minister Bimal Borah, inspected the Sarusajai Sports Complex to evaluate the preparations and logistical arrangements.

The Chief Minister also led a comprehensive review meeting with officials, stressing the importance of precision, discipline, and coordination to ensure the event runs smoothly.

Earlier, Borah mentioned that Sarusajai would host several rehearsal sessions from January 12 to 15, involving artists from all over Assam.

“These rehearsals are essential for ensuring that every participant understands the formations, rhythm, and process, leading to a flawless and visually impressive performance,” Borah remarked, calling the event a source of pride and a significant showcase of Assam’s cultural heritage.

Shah's last visit to Assam was on December 29, where he inaugurated several key infrastructure and cultural projects, including the Jyoti–Bishnu Antarjatik Kala Mandir, a new Police Commissionerate building, and an integrated command and control center aimed at enhancing urban security.
