Government Collaboration for Flood Relief in Assam

New Delhi, July 28 - On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the central government is collaborating with the Assam state government to provide relief to those affected by flooding. This statement followed a meeting with Assam's central ministers and BJP MPs at the Parliament complex.

In a post on the social media platform 'X', the Prime Minister shared, “I met with Assam's MPs to discuss the current flood situation in various parts of the state. The central government is working alongside the Assam government to assist those impacted. I wish for everyone's safety and well-being.” Ministers Sarbananda Sonowal and Pabitra Margherita also participated in this meeting.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), a total of 445,495 individuals have been affected by the floods in districts including Sivasagar, Golaghat, Charideo, Jorhat, Nagaon, and Kamrup (Metropolitan). The ASDMA reported that 90 relief camps are currently operational, sheltering 28,695 people, along with 94 relief distribution centers.

The bulletin indicated that various agencies, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and Civil Defense personnel, are engaged in rescue and relief operations, with 67 boats deployed in the affected areas. The ASDMA noted that flooding has submerged crops across 37,139.52 hectares and resulted in the loss of 26,679 livestock. Officials reported an improvement in the flood situation on Tuesday.

They mentioned that water levels are receding in several districts. Additionally, a central team visited Sivasagar, one of the most severely affected districts, to assess the flood conditions.
