PM Commends J&K's Remarkable Achievement in Cricket

On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Jammu and Kashmir for its remarkable rise as a center for sports excellence, specifically congratulating the local cricket team for winning their first Ranji Trophy title.


During his monthly radio broadcast, 'Mann Ki Baat', the Prime Minister reflected on the team's historic win in the Ranji Trophy final held in Hubballi, where they triumphed over Karnataka under the leadership of Paras Dogra.


PM Modi expressed, 'At the end of last month, an exciting match took place in Hubballi, Karnataka, where the Jammu and Kashmir cricket team secured the Ranji Trophy. The most rewarding part is that after nearly seventy years, this team has finally claimed its first title.'


Recognition for Auqib Nabi's Performance

The Prime Minister also highlighted the exceptional performance of bowler Auqib Nabi, who took 60 wickets during the Ranji season. 'The achievements of young Kashmiri bowler Auqib Nabi are being celebrated nationwide,' he noted.


He added that this significant victory has ignited celebrations throughout the Union Territory, stating, 'The players, coaching staff, and the people of Jammu and Kashmir are absolutely elated by this win.'


Jammu and Kashmir: A Rising Sporting Hub

Emphasizing the region's rich sporting heritage, PM Modi remarked that Jammu and Kashmir is increasingly recognized as a venue for significant sporting events. 'The people of Jammu and Kashmir have always shown immense enthusiasm for sports. I am thrilled that the region is becoming a hub for major sporting activities,' he stated.


Successful Hosting of National Sporting Events

The Prime Minister also mentioned the successful organization of the Khelo India Winter Games 2026, which took place in Ladakh from January 20 to 26, featuring over 900 athletes from 25 states and Union Territories competing in six disciplines across Gulmarg and Leh. The closing ceremony for the second phase was held in Gulmarg on February 26.


'Gulmarg has carved out a unique identity as the venue for the Khelo India Winter Games. Additionally, sports like football are extremely popular among the youth in this region,' PM Modi concluded.
