Celebrating International Yoga Day

On Saturday, President Droupadi Murmu praised yoga as a remarkable representation of India's soft power, stating that it has now become a shared heritage of all humanity.

Speaking at an event held at the police line to mark International Yoga Day, she noted that since the United Nations adopted India's proposal to celebrate June 21 as International Yoga Day in 2015, many countries around the globe have integrated yoga into their daily routines and are reaping its benefits.

She emphasized, 'It has now become a shared heritage of all humanity.'

To illustrate yoga's growing global appeal, she mentioned Kuwaiti yoga practitioner Sheikha Sheikha Ali Al-Jabir Al-Sabah, who was honored with the Padma Shri by the Indian government for promoting yoga and fostering cultural integration.

The President remarked, 'Yoga is not tied to any religion, sect, or community. It is an art of living a healthy life.' She urged everyone to adopt yoga as a daily practice for mental and physical well-being.

She added that yoga is effective in preventing lifestyle-related diseases, enhancing immunity, and connecting the mind, body, and soul. Murmu concluded her three-day visit to Uttarakhand on Saturday.

The event was also attended by Uttarakhand's Governor, Lieutenant General (Retd) Gurmeet Singh, who described yoga as an invaluable gift from India to the world.

He stated, 'India is already playing its role as a 'world guru' in the field of yoga.' The event saw a large turnout, with numerous participants from various sectors practicing yoga.
