President Murmu Celebrates Goa's Statehood Day with a Call for Sustainable Tourism
Celebrating Goa's Rich Heritage
On Friday, President Droupadi Murmu extended her warm wishes to the people of Goa on the occasion of the state's establishment day. She emphasized the importance of adopting sustainable tourism practices to preserve the state's culture and heritage, urging both tourists and local residents to collaborate and support local communities.
Goa was granted statehood on May 30, 1987, having previously been part of the centrally administered territory of Goa, Daman, and Diu. In a post on the social media platform X, President Murmu stated, “Heartfelt greetings to the people of Goa on their statehood day! The rich cultural heritage, stunning beaches, warm hospitality, and numerous attractions of Goa draw tourists from around the globe.”
She further remarked, “Tourists and locals should unite in embracing sustainable tourism to protect the state's culture and heritage while supporting local communities.” The President expressed her hope that Goa continues to progress and contributes to the development of a prosperous India.
