President Droupadi Murmu to Honor 48 Teachers on National Teachers Day

New Delhi, September 5: On the occasion of Teachers' Day, President Droupadi Murmu will present the National Teachers Awards to 48 outstanding school teachers at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi this Saturday.
During the ceremony, short documentaries will be screened to showcase the remarkable achievements and contributions of each awardee, highlighting their positive impact on students' lives.
The Ministry of Education's Department of School Education and Literacy organizes this annual event to honor exceptional teachers from across India with the National Teachers Awards.
A meticulous and transparent online selection process is employed to identify teachers who have shown extraordinary dedication to their profession.
The National Teachers Awards aim to recognize the invaluable contributions of some of the country's finest educators, acknowledging their hard work and commitment to enhancing the quality of school education and enriching students' lives.
For the 2026 awards, teachers were invited to submit self-nominations online via the Ministry of Education's portal, with the nomination window open from June 15 to July 20, allowing widespread participation.
This year, the Department of School Education and Literacy has selected 48 teachers through a comprehensive three-stage selection process at the District, State, and National levels.
The awardees come from a diverse background, representing 27 States, seven Union Territories, and six Central Government organizations.
Among the selected teachers, 26 are male and 22 are female, showcasing a balanced representation from various regions and administrative areas across the country.
The National Teachers Awards are designed to honor educators whose ongoing efforts have significantly improved learning environments and educational outcomes. The awards also promote innovation, dedication, and excellence in teaching.
The ceremony at Vigyan Bhawan will celebrate the contributions of these teachers, with the screening of documentaries further emphasizing their impactful work and achievements.
In Himachal Pradesh, 26 teachers will receive the State Teacher Award for their notable contributions to student education and the enhancement of educational quality, shaping the future of the next generation.
This group includes 21 school teachers and five college educators, with 15 teachers selected for the General Award in the Non-Tribal/Hard Area category.
In Uttar Pradesh, 81 teachers recognized for their significant contributions to education will be honored with the State Teacher Award and the Chief Minister's Teacher Award by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
The award ceremony in Uttar Pradesh will take place at the Yogiraj Baba Gambhirnath Auditorium in Gorakhpur, featuring 61 teachers from the Basic Education Department and 20 from the Secondary Education Department.
