Preparations for President Murmu's Visit

In anticipation of President Droupadi Murmu's arrival in Uttar Pradesh, local officials are swiftly implementing measures to manage the notorious monkey population in Vrindavan. Plans are underway to deploy langur effigies and teams from the forest department to prevent these animals from snatching the president's glasses. These unusual preparations coincide with Murmu's three-day visit to Mathura, which includes stops in Vrindavan and Govardhan, starting on March 19. The monkeys in Vrindavan are infamous for stealing glasses and returning them in exchange for food.

Special Measures Against Mischievous Monkeys

Officials have announced that teams equipped with slingshots and sticks will be stationed in areas affected by the monkeys in Vrindavan and Govardhan. Approximately 30 personnel will be deployed, with eight assigned to high-monkey-density areas and three to less affected regions. To deter the monkeys, teams will also carry red and green laser lights if necessary. As a new initiative, officials will place langur statues at key locations to discourage the monkeys, which typically avoid areas inhabited by langurs. Previously, trained handlers would use live langurs during VIP visits, but wildlife regulations now restrict this practice, prompting officials to opt for statues as an alternative.

Focus on the President's Itinerary

During her visit, Murmu will tour significant temples and sites in Vrindavan and inaugurate a new cancer block at the Ramakrishna Mission Seva Ashram Charitable Hospital. On March 21, she is also scheduled to undertake the traditional 21-kilometer parikrama around Govardhan Hill. Officials have stated that ensuring a smooth and uninterrupted visit, free from any disturbances caused by monkeys, has become their top priority.
