Initial Findings from the AAIB on Air India Flight 171

The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) published its preliminary report on the Air India Flight 171 incident shortly after midnight on Saturday. According to the report, the jet fuel switch was noted to have turned off with a one-second interval in the air, and a pilot was heard stating, 'I did not turn off the fuel.'

Minister's Remarks on the Investigation

Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu emphasized that the findings from the investigation into the Air India aircraft accident that occurred on June 12 in Ahmedabad are merely initial conclusions. He expressed that it is premature to draw any conclusions at this stage. The minister praised the investigation team for their commendable work and mentioned that they are coordinating with the AAIB to provide any necessary assistance. He expressed hope that the final report would be available soon to reach a conclusion.

Response from Airline Pilots Association

In response to the AAIB's preliminary findings, the Airline Pilots Association of India issued a statement indicating that the tone and direction of the investigation seem to lean towards pilot error. They categorically rejected this assumption and called for a fair, fact-based investigation.

Concerns Over Investigation Transparency

The report was leaked to the media without any signatures or information from responsible officials, raising concerns about the transparency of the investigation. The lack of confidentiality has diminished credibility and public trust. Furthermore, qualified and experienced personnel, particularly line pilots, have yet to be included in the investigation team.
