Pravin Amre Remembers Sachin Tendulkar's Iconic Century in Perth Test
A Memorable Performance
Former Indian cricketer Pravin Amre reflected on Sachin Tendulkar's remarkable century during the 1992 Perth Test against Australia, describing it as one of the best performances he has ever seen. The challenging pitch conditions and the formidable bowling attack made Tendulkar's achievement even more impressive, with his bat 'standing upright' in one of the significant cracks on the pitch.
Amre's Insights on the Historic Innings
Speaking on 'The Great Indian Cricket Show' aired on Doordarshan, Amre, who played 11 Tests and 37 ODIs for India between 1991 and 1994, shared his thoughts. At just 18 years old, Tendulkar scored a brilliant 114 at the renowned WACA stadium, facing a strong Australian bowling lineup that included Craig McDermott, Merv Hughes, and Paul Reiffel. Amre noted, 'Among all his hundreds, the one in Perth stands out. I was the 12th man that day, his roommate, and witnessed it all firsthand.' He added, 'The pitch had such large cracks that Sachin's bat could stand upright in one. He displayed exceptional skill and composure against world-class bowlers on a surface where the ball could behave unpredictably. That 1992 Perth century? Truly one of the finest I have ever seen.'
Tendulkar's Impact in Australia
This tour marked Tendulkar's first Test series in Australia, where he emerged as India's top scorer with 368 runs across five matches and nine innings, averaging 46.00, including two centuries and a highest score of 148*.
