The police in Pratapgarh district have successfully apprehended a criminal who had escaped from custody. An official from the police department provided this update on Monday.

According to Shailendra Lal, the Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) for the eastern region, the Nagar Kotwali police and a special team arrested Javed, also known as Chand Babu (28), late at night on December 28 and 29 from the Azad Nagar ground. He had previously fled police custody while receiving treatment at a medical college on December 24.

Lal explained that Javed had attempted to sexually assault a ten-year-old girl from the Udaidyah market area on the evening of December 20, leading to charges being filed against him under the POCSO Act and for attempted rape.

During the search for the wanted individual, the Kotwali Patti police received a tip-off and arrested Javed on the night of December 23 at the Aamapur intersection after a brief encounter, where they also seized an illegal firearm and ammunition. He was injured by a gunshot to the leg and was admitted to a medical college, where he managed to escape from police custody.

Following Javed's escape, the police registered a case against five individuals, including four officers on duty at the time.

ASP Shailendra Lal mentioned that four police personnel, including Sub-Inspector Keshav Prasad and Constables Vinod Singh, Adarsh Yadav, and Gulshan Kumar, were assigned to monitor Javed. He noted that on the same day, Javed managed to elude the officers.

The Nagar Kotwali police filed a case against Javed and the four officers based on a complaint from Inspector Abhishek Sirohi of the Kotwali Patti police station.
